Integrative Medicine (IM)
In mainstream American medicine, patients tend to be known by their diseases alone. For example, a patient who may be diagnosed with many different diseases is usually referred to as “the 31 year old male with diabetes, depression, obesity, anxiety, and asthma” and may be seeing 3 or 4 different doctors for these issues.
Integrative medicine depends on a partnership between the patient and the doctor where the goal is to treat the mind, body, and spirit, all at the same time.
While some of the therapies used may be nonconventional, a guiding principle within integrative medicine is to use therapies that have high-quality evidence to support them.
